InfoDoreen Hamilton was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 17, 1951. She received her Education Standard A Certificate at the University of Regina. Doreen taught in the communities of Southey, Saskatchewan and Burns Lake, British Columbia. In 1985, she was elected to City Council and re-elected in 1988. In that time she served as Mayor in 1988.

Doreen was first elected in 1991 to the Saskatchewan Legislature with the New Democratic Party. In 1998, she was appointed to cabinet as Minister of Sask Liquor and Gaming, SPMC, Public Service Commission, and Wascana Centre Authority. From February to October 2001, Doreen held the portfolios of Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming, SPMC, and Minister Responsible for Status of Women.

Doreen was re-elected in the general elections in 1995, 1999, and 2003. Currently serving on the Standing Committees on Economy, Privileges and Private Bills, she has served on the Standing Committees on Communications, Health Care, Municipal Law, Legislative Instruments Committee, Board of Internal Economy, Chair Regina Caucus, and Legislative Secretary to the Premier. October 2005, Doreen was elected Deputy Speaker and Chair of Committee of the Whole.

Doreen is a member of the Broadway United Church, serving on the Worship and Membership Committee. This spring she was elected Vice-Chair of Prairie Lily IODE chapter. She has served on the Boothill Community Association establishing the first preschool program.

Doreen is married to Robert G. Hamilton, and they have two children: Noel and Amber.
