Trump was a horrible fit for Maryland, but I’ve looked closely at both MD-2 and MD-3 and down ballot, these districts could be interesting. MD-2 has a lot of AA County that up until Trump would still vote Red at times. And Sarbanes in MD-3 took a lot of very Red territory. That part of Harford County is blood red and the Baltimore County parts are red leaning. I expect Dems to hold both but in a good GOP year and stellar recruits, I could see very competitive races. Hogan certainly crushed in both, I’d be curious to see results by 2018 AG - where the GOP candidate lost but by a landslide, but was a better fit for some republicans compared to Trump.

It’s still a tough race but I like Republicans chances in this district in November. David Marks and Chris West can win this. Kathy Szeliga I’m not sure about. If Dutch pulls a last minute retirement, which wouldn’t surprise me since much of this district is new, I think Jim Brochin would be a good candidate for Democrats.

So a poll from Kellyanne’s firm shows this race on the cusp of being competitive. I’ve said this since December of last year. Carroll is deep dark red and Trump tanked in Baltimore County. Nicolee Ambrose is running a good, grassroots campaign. Dutch is still the (slight) favorite, but if you want to look for a freak upset in Election Night, this could be one.
