BBC Profile:
Both Tewkesbury and its predecessor constituency, Cirencester and Tewkesbury, have returned Conservative MPs since World War II. Since 1997 Laurence Robertson has held Tewkesbury for the Conservatives, having increased his majority from 13% in 1997 to nearly 19% in 2001. In 2005 Robertson was returned with a majority of almost 22%.

Boundary changes will see parts of Leckhampton, Oakley, Up Hatherley, and Warden Hill move to Cheltenham, while parts of Prestbury and Swindon Village wards move into this seat. This seat contains a mix of suburban and rural territory. The southern half of the Tewkesbury seat comprises the sprawl of the expanding conurbations of Cheltenham and Gloucester.

The largest community in the Tewkesbury constituency is Churchdown, a Gloucester suburb. Tewkesbury is an historic market town which, with over 400 listed buildings, is very popular with tourists. Other towns of note include Bishop's Cleeve, Winchcombe, Cleeve Hill and Dumbleton.

A large proportion of the population commutes to Cheltenham and Gloucester to work.
