Description | BBC Profile:
This constituency and its predecessor - the old Bodmin seat - regularly changed hands in the period after war. The Conservatives held it from 1970 until 1997 when the present incumbent, the Liberal Democrat Colin Breed, won the seat. Mr Breed retained the seat in 2001, and increased his majority in 2005 to just over 6,500.
Boundary changes move Fowey and Tywardreath and St Blaise wards to St Austell and Newquay, whilst Stokeclimsland will move to North Cornwall. To find out what might have happened had these boundary changes been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
Cornwall South East has many small ports and a thriving tourist industry. Like most south coast locations, it also has a high proportion of retired people.
The three main towns are Saltash, Torpoint and Liskeard, but most of the population live in small villages and former fishing ports.
Considerable numbers of local people are involved in retail and manufacturing. Farming also plays a significant role here, and creative industries have grown fast with the help of EU and government grants.
