Description | In 1860, no popular vote election for US President was held in South Carolina. The state legislature appointed all of the electors to John Breckinridge on 11/6/1860, the same day the popular vote was cast in the other states. The candidates for Presidential Elector were chosen nearly unanimously. The legislature then considered instructing the Electors but decided against it. |
