DescriptionBBC Profile:
The area which is now Glasgow North West has been part of several constituencies. Its core, around Drumchapel, was the centre of the old Glasgow Garscadden seat. However, Drumchapel was substantially depopulated and 12,000 voters were added from Kelvindale and Jordanhill to create Glasgow Anniesland in 1997.

Donald Dewar was elected in Garscadden in 1978 in a by-election caused by the death of William Small. In 1999 Dewar was also elected to the Scottish Parliament and became Scotland's first ever first minister.

Dewar died in October 2000. Labour's John Robertson won the Westminster by-election with 52% of the vote.

In the 2005 boundary changes much of Glasgow Anniesland was incorporated into Glasgow North West, although Kelvindale was lost to Glasgow North. Robertson won the new seat with a majority of 29.6% over the Liberal Democrats.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

This constituency fans out from Partick North West along the Clyde to Yoker and extends north to take in the huge Drumchapel estate, one of the largest social housing projects in Scotland.

The area has suffered from Clydeside's industrial decline but is home to one of Glasgow's last remaining shipyards at Scotstoun on the Clyde.

Modern employment opportunities include the huge Great Western Retail Park on the A82 at the southern end of Drumchapel.

Victoria Park, with its leisure facilities and boating lake is located within the eastern boundary of the seat.
