Description | Former Gov. William L. Guy, one of the most popular Democrats in the state, easily defeated Robert P. McCarney. The two had faced each other in the 1968 election for Governor.
Guy introduced a three-part plan: reduce the federal budget, take steps to limit inflation, and increase funding for agricultural research.
McCarney accused Guy of "bossism" and accused him of being involved in banking scandals while serving as Governor. |
