The Conservative Party's district convention met in Greensboro on 6/12/1876. The delegates nominated Scales unanimously on the first ballot. During the campaign, the party began to use the label Democratic Party (Greensboro Patriot, 6/14/1876).
Republican nomination
The Republican district convention met in Reidsville on 8/2/1876. The delegates nominated Boyd by a majority of two over Stephen Douglas (Greensboro Patriot, 8/9/1876). |
