Description | The Republicans picked up five U.S. Senate seats in the 1950 midterm elections. Their narrow 50-49% win meant that they had received more popular votes for U.S. Senate than the Democrats. However, the Democrats had a 49-47 margin. This was the first time that the party in control actually received fewer votes in the election. |
