Description | This second convention of the Liberty Party for the 1848 cycle was held at the Erie County Court House in Buffalo NY. Samuel Lewis was the president of the convention, and Stanley Matthews was the secretary. John P. Hale was nominated for President as seen below, and Leicester King was nominated for VP on the second ballot over Owen Lovejoy. Hale and King both declined to run, so another convention was called using the name of the National Liberty Party. |
