The vote to send to the full Senate was 10-8. "All 10 Republicans voted to send the nomination to the floor and all eight Democrats voted no."- AP


Bush granted Bolton a recess appointment on August 1, 2005.
[Link] According to AP sources he was to be sworn in the same day. As this is a recess appointment his term will end on the first day of the next congress, as opposed to serving til until 2009 or later.
