Description | Lebbeus Egerton fell 1,631 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1834. The joint assembly convened on October 10 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Lieutenant Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. Egerton was elected on the first ballot, receiving 1124 of 214 ballots cast (53.3%). Chittenden received 28 (13%) and Clark 69 (32.2%). |
