Description | William Palmer fell 1,167 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1835. The joint assembly convened on October 9 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. The joint assembly was deadlocked after 63 ballots, and dissolved on November 2, leaving the Lieutenant Governor, Silas Jenison, to serve in the absence of a Governor that year.
The same failure was shared that year with the office of House clerk. The Assembly gave up on November 9, and a clerk pro tem was elected.
