DescriptionTerm end date speculative.

Special election to complete the term of Junichiro Koga, who resigned the seat amid allegations of lying on his resumé. The field is currently set at four candidates, led by former Rep. Taku Yamasaki, the long-term incumbent defeated by Koga in 2003. The Democratic Party has nominated wheelchair-bound lawyer Masanori Hirata with hopes of keeping this seat in opposition hands. The two other candidates are Shinichi Hamatake, a Democrat making a run as an Independent, and Communist Party nominee Hirotoshi Yamada.

The result lies in if Fukuoka 2 citizens are comfortable sending Yamasaki back to the Diet after voting him out so recently. Democrat Koga's scandals may help him in that respect, after election such a failure as his replacement, citizens may want to return to the proven representative. Another question lies in how well Independent candidate Hamatake will perform with Democratic voters. A strong performance from him may signal an LDP pick-up.
