Description | Left-wing party founded by radio producer and publisher Gunnar Smári Egilsson. Party supports free national healthcare, subsidized housing and heightened tax collection efforts. Consistently frustrated by its inability to break the 5% threshold to enter Iceland's parliament, party decided on a new, more aggressive path in 2024 - it selected popular Tanzanian-Icelandic city representative (Reykjavík constituency south) Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir as its chairman on October 20, 2024, then entered Iceland's 2024 parliamentary elections in a big way by forwarding an astounding 109 candidates in all six Icelandic constituencies on October 30, 2024 [Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands (21. öld); electoral symbol "J"] |
