Description | Formerly center-right, socially liberal party begun as an agrarian political organization called the Farmers' Union. Party changed its name to 'Center' in 1957, in sync with Europe-wide name changes to 'Center' seen among other agrarian-interest parties in the 1950s. Party had been known for decades for advancing rural-community views on decentralization, entrepreneurship and the environment. Party's seeming detachment from its rural roots and countryside focus after former trade minister Annie Lööf took charge of it on September 23, 2011 brought to it disaster after parliamentary elections held on September 11, 2022, where it lost in all 55 rural municipalities of Sweden [Centerpartiet (C)]. |
