Description | Left-wing Islamic modernist party founded as the Malaysia Workers' Party (Parti Pekerja-Pekerja Malaysia) in January 1978. After the party was absorbed by Mohamad Sabu's Gerakan Harapan Baru (New Hope Movement) on August 31, 2015, Sabu sought to 'freshen up' its structure and its principles by calling it the Parti Progresif Islam, switching to AMANAH (TRUST) on Malaysia's National Day on September 16, 2015. AMANAH is one of four component parties of Pakatan Harapan coalition. AMANAH is led by former Defense Minister Mohamad Sabu [Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH)]. |
