Description | Assumed name of the center-right "People's Power" party (Tautas varas spēks) from 2012 to 2022. Assumed name was used in 2013 in preparation for the 2014 European Parliament elections at the request of the People's Power leader Aleksandrs Mirskis, striking its former assumed name of "Strength in Unity" (Spēks vienotībā). Under the name to "Alternative," party was unable to obtain seats in the European Parliament or in any city council during municipal elections held in 2017 and 2020. A number of disappointed members subsequently broke off to form "For Stability!" on February 26, 2021. Mirskis resigned, and the Alternative Party was dissolved by its new leader Valentin Yeremeyev, who reverted the party to its original name, People's Power Party, in May 2022 [Politiskā partija "Alternative"]. |
