Description | Center-right party founded by 2014 presidential and San José mayoral candidate José Manuel Echandi and led by him until his resignation on October 8, 2015. Echandi resurrected the party of his uncle, Mario Echandi, the 33rd president of Costa Rica, and continued to forward his opposition to Calderonism (formulated under the leadership of caudillo Rafael Angel Calderon), one of two ideological doctrines (the other being liberationism advanced by the National Liberation Party or PLN) which dominated Costa Rican political life since the 1940s [Partido Avance Nacional (PAN)]. |
