Description | Center-left, social-democratic party launched as the Movement for a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova (MDPM), changing its name on April 15, 2000. Party is identified with oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc. Party's failure after snap elections held on July 11, 2021 (collapsing to zero seats in Parliament) forced an internal reckoning and sweep-out of leadership, including its president, Pavel Filip, Moldova's 12th Prime Minister (January 20, 2018 to June 8, 2019). Party has been led by historian and former Minister of Culture Monica Babuc since October 30, 2021. Party was rebranded the European Social Democratic Party [Partidul Social Democrat European (PSDE)] on November 20, 2022 and dissolved on November 21, 2022 [Partidul Democrat din Moldova (PDM); Democratic Party of Moldova]. |
