Description | Far left party which follows (and invented) the concept of "People's Multiparty Democracy" in 1993, developed by party activist Madan Bhandari. The concept proposes to 'lighten' the authoritarianism inherent in traditional Marxist-Leninist ideology by 'tolerating' the democratic multi-party system. Party pushed this philosophy as a condition for union with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) on May 17, 2018. Party is chaired by Nepal's three-time Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli. Party dissolved itself on May 17, 2018 after union with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre). Merger became the Nepal Communist Party. After the merged party was declared void and dissolved by Supreme Court order on March 8, 2021, the CPN (UML) was re-constituted the same day [Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) or CPN (UML)]. |
