| Description | Center-left to populist party founded by former Romano Prodi minister and prosecutor Antonio Di Pietro. Di Pietro had angled his party to where the Five Star Movement (established in 2009) managed to become; at times center-right to center-left and populist. IdV merged with Romano Prodi's The Democrats in February 1999, hoping to establish a major center-left presence. Its failure forced Di Pietro to break away and reestablish his IdV in 2009. Competition with the newly-launched Five Star Movement brought about popular ill-favor by comparison, and substantial decline for the IdV, impelling Di Pietro to resign in 2014. Party is currently led by attorney Ignazio Messina. Party has one seat in the 18th Chamber of Deputies [Italia dei Valori (IdV)]. |
