Description | In the 2006 elections for the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), former speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn ran a slate of candidates under the name "Lytvyn Bloc," a coalition of the People's Party, the Party of All-Ukrainian Union of the Left "Justice", and the Peasant Democratic Party. In the election, the party finished seventh with 619,905 votes and no seats.
In the 2007 elections, Lytvyn reformed the Bloc, this time as a coalition of the People's Party and the Labour Party. The party did much better, placing fifth with 924,538 and 20 seats in the Verkhovna Rada. There is speculation that Lytvyn may seek the presidency in 2010. |
