Description | Marxist-Leninist, anti-revisionist party and one of only two remaining established Communist parties in Denmark as of 2023 [not to be confused with the Communist Party in Denmark (Kommunistisk Parti i Danmark, KPiD), established in 1990, or the Communist Party of Denmark (Danmarks Kommunistiske Parti, DKP), established on November 9, 1919. Both of these parties merged together in 2023]. The Communist Party (Denmark) was formed as a result of a merger between the Communist Party of Denmark/Marxist–Leninists (Danmarks Kommunistiske Parti/Marxister-Leninister, DKP/ML) and the Communist Unification (Kommunistisk Samling, KS) on November 9, 2006. Both of these parties were founded by members who broke off from the main Communist Party at the time, the Communist Party of Denmark (Danmarks Kommunistiske Parti, DKP), in opposition to its decision at a Congress held in 1990 to break off relations with hidebound Communist parties linked to the the collapsing Soviet empire. The KP is only active in the Capital Region (Hovelanden Region) of Denmark, focusing most of energies on the Municipality of Copenhagen. The KP re-elected Lotte Rørtoft-Madsen as its leader after its 7th Congress held in March 2024 [Kommunistisk Parti (KP)]. |
