DescriptionMovement that sought to abolish the Greater London Council, led by Oliver Stutchbury, a Conservative-turned-Labour parliamentary aspirant. Convinced of the ineffectiveness of the GLC, he published pamphlets and founded the Abolitionist Campaign, which ran candidates in the 1977 and 1981 elections. Although it fared poorly at the polls, the GLC was indeed abolished in 1986.
