Description | Center-left to left-wing party split from the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP) in 1959 over its stance supporting the Soviet Union's invasion of Hungary in 1956. The split was led by Aksel Larsen, the DKP's former chairman, who founded the Socialist People's Party. Party slid towards neutrality during the Cold War, neither supporting linking Denmark to the West (party fought against Denmark's entry into the European Economic Community, for example) nor the East (supporting disassociation of far-left parties from the Soviet Union). Party was renamed (in English only) the "Green-Left" on March 19, 2022 by unanimous vote of the party congress [Link] Party leader has been Pia Olsen Dyhr since February 13, 2014 [Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF); Green-Left in English]. |
