Description | Big-tent centrist party primarily focused on supporting the "methodology of sustainable development" for Egypt. Party began as the Freedom Party founded by members of the dissolved National Democratic Party, who had hoped to turn the Freedom Party into a successor. Party was able to pick up 3 seats after elections held in 2015. Disappointed with the results, the leaders of the party led by its chairman Mamdouh Hassan decided to merge their party with fourteen others to form the Egyptian Congress Party (aka, the Conference Party) on September 18, 2012, which was led by Mohamed El-Orabi. The party later decided to extract itself from the alliance and renamed itself the Egyptian Freedom Party in March 2018, and picked up 7 seats in the Egyptian House and one in the Senate in 2020. Party's general secretary is Ahmed Muhanna [حزب الحرية المصري; Hizb al-Huriyat al-Misriu (HHM)]. |
