Description | Satirical party formerly known as the Beer Party of Austria (Bierpartei Österreich, BPÖ) launched in 2015, renamed, rebranded and reorganized as The Beer Party (die Bierpartei, BIER) after it successfully ran in Vienna as die Bierpartei under the abbreviation BIER on August 8, 2019. BIER won mandates in a total of 11 district councils that year and the change was made permanent. Party was founded by Viennese punk band leader Dominik Wlazny (aka, Marco Pogo), who contended that "power comes from beer" and that Austria should be transformed into a "beerocracy" (Bierokratie) to enrich everyone's life. Wlazny announced his candidacy for Austrian Chancellor on January 18, 2024 and BIER participated in the June 6-9, 2024 European elections and the 28th National Council elections held on September 29, 2024. Wlazny announced on February 3, 2025 ahead of elections planned for April 27, 2025 in Vienna that the party would neither run in Vienna "nor in any other election," effectively ending BIER as an electoral force [die Bierpartei (BIER)].
