| Description | Centrist, liberal party which considers itself the successor to the defunct Liberal Party, the exiled "official" opposition to the Stroessner regime. Party nominated its chair Federico Franco as vice president under national candidate Fernando Lugo, who succeed in becoming president after elections held on April 20, 2008. Franco subsequently became Paraguay's 49th President after Lugo was impeached. Party has been led by 2013, 2018 and 2023 presidential candidate Efraín Alegre since June 16, 2016. Party is a key member of the Coalition for a New Paraguay, or Concertación 2023, formed on July 9 2022 [Partido Liberal Radical Auténtico or 'liberales' (PLRA)]. |
