| Description | The U.S. Taxpayers Party was formed in 1992 to provide a line on the ballot for Pat Buchanan. When he decided not to run, the party's organizer, Howard Phillips, became the nominee. Phillips wanted to collect the various right-wing parties into one national coalition (American, American Independent, Independent American, Constitution, Tisch Independent Citizens, Concerned Citizens, etc.).
At the party's 1999 National Convention, it voted to change its name to the Constitution Party. |
