Description | Classically liberal, centrist party and one of Honduras' oldest. Party was originally launched as an association called the "Liberal League" under the auspices of Honduras' provisional president from May 1872 to January 1874, Céleo Arias. Arias' disappearance (some believe murder) saw the association's figurehead switch to Arias' successor, Policarpo Bonilla, who renamed the party the Liberal Party. Party is a proponent of socialiberalismo and Capitalist welfare. Party was led by Luis Zelaya from May 8, 2017 until he was replaced after a party primary held on March 14, 2021 by Presidential candidate Yani Rosenthal. Rosenthal has been chairman since April 14, 2021 [Partido Liberal de Honduras (PLH)]. |
