Description | Right-wing, populist political party in Finland founded following the dissolution of the Finnish Rural Party in 1995. Party sees its roots in a submerged Finnish identity almost wiped out when the land was under Russian rule between 1809 to 1917. Party sees Finnish identity, and that of the Baltic Finn presence in Estonia and Latvia, as still young and very fragile, and seeks a means of strengthening or uniting it by bringing them together using 'Christian sociality' (seeking the well-being of people and the environment on a 'love of Christian neighbor' and Christian values basis). Party has been chaired since June 10, 2017 by linguist and member of the Helsinki City Council since 2009, Jussi Kristian Halla-aho [Perussuomalaiset (PS)]. |
