Description | Conservative agrarian-interests party reborn from the popular anti-Nazi, anti-Communist Peasant Party established on October 10, 1926 and forcibly dissolved on July 29, 1947. Party references the famous trial of former National Peasant Party Leaders, president Iuliu Maniu and deputy leader Ion Mihalache, who both died in prison during an effort post-war by Romania's Communist Party to wipe out all non-Communist political parties. Party saw overwhelming victory in the elections of 1928, which was considered Romania's first free election. Party was re-established by Corneliu Coposu in December 1989 and its members advance Unirea Republicii Moldova cu România, or the unification of Romania with the Republic of Moldova. [PNŢ Maniu-Mihalache - PNŢMM]. |
