Description | "(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 17 - Albania is under EU special surveillance of sorts ahead of its June 23 parliamentary elections. These will be ''a crucial test of the country's democratic institutions and its progress towards the European Union'', EU Foreign Affairs Representative Catherine Ashton and EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule said in a joint statement on Monday.
''We will continue to closely monitor preparations for the elections, stressing the need to keep them in line with international and European standards'' in light of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) observers' interim report, they went on.
''It is the responsibility of all Albanian political leaders and political parties to restore public trust in the electoral process and to create the conditions for the results to be accepted by all'', Ashton and Fule said." |
