GOP looks to keep Wisconsin a battleground state

| Description | For a generation or more, Wisconsin has been known as a top battleground in presidential politics, a place where both parties go all-out to win because they believe this state could be the difference between winning and losing the White House.
But does the label still fit?
Is it a battleground if one side always wins?
Democrat Barack Obama's two big victories here - by 14 points in 2008 and 7 points in 2012 - raise obvious questions about the Republican Party's competitiveness in Wisconsin at the presidential level. In the wake of last month's resounding defeat, those questions are being asked by GOP strategists looking ahead to the next campaign.
It may seem crazy to even raise the issue in a state where Republicans occupy the governor's office, control the Legislature and hold five of eight U.S. House seats.
But presidential elections are a different ball game. |
