Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and his wife say they’re proud of their marriage — and of her past as an outspoken lesbian.
The mayoral hopeful and his wife, Chirlane McCray, spoke out in a series of TV interviews in the wake of revelations that McCray identified as a lesbian in the 1970s, and penned an article for Essence magazine titled, “I Am a Lesbian.”
“Chirlane in her youth wrote an incredibly powerful article, and it was brave, and I admire her for it. And it was one of the reasons I fell in love with her. She had the strength to stand up,” de Blasio said in an interview on Fox’s “Good Day New York.” |
