| Description | She’s a Sarah Palin endorsee who supported higher gas taxes and benefits from a federal farm subsidy. The campaign team that labeled her “the true conservative” has deep ties to moderate former Sen. Chuck Hagel. And while she doggedly logs more than 30,000 miles a year on the road visiting constituents, she hasn’t mustered even a half-million dollars for her campaign.
But as Deb Fischer emerged from obscurity Wednesday as the overnight favorite to be the next U.S. senator from Nebraska, there is no dissonance on this point: She is, allies and rivals agree, a tenacious, unflinching force in state politics.
