Description | It's almost a foregone conclusion that Congressman Chris John will run for the open U.S. Senate seat that will be vacated by Senator John Breaux next year. John told 7-news today, you can expect an official announcement of his intentions in the very near future.
"Well, I have formed an exploratory committee, as you know, which is the last step we have before we make an official announcement for my candidacy, which will be shortly. We are putting together a team, and from what I've heard in listening to people from across the state is that they want a moderate, mainstream-type of senator, and I fit that bill very well. I have seven years of that kind of service in the seventh district, so, we're putting together a pretty good team and we'll make it official soon."
U.S. Representative David Vitter has already announced that he will run for U.S. Senate. The Republican says, if elected, he will be a strong independent voice on crucial national issues, always advancing Louisiana's values.
If Chris John does decide to run for senate, that leaves his spot open. And there's lots of talk about who'll step up to run for the seat. One name that's come up: State Senator Willie Mount. KPLC has learned that she is considering it, but Mount says she won't make a decision until John makes his. |
