DescriptionFormer state Rep. Cynthia Davis, who quit last month as St. Charles County Republican chairwoman, now plans to leave the GOP altogether.

She said Tuesday she intends to run next year for electoral office as a candidate of the tiny Constitution Party, a strongly conservative entity.

Davis said among her options are the U.S. Senate, governor and other statewide offices - and the 9th District U.S. House seat held by Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-St. Elizabeth.

Davis said although the Republican platform overlaps "quite a bit" with Constitution Party principles, too many GOP officeholders are willing to compromise with Democrats.

She pointed to the recent Congressional deal on raising the debt ceiling as an example.

"Both parties are guilty of raising the debt ceiling," Davis said. "It shows they're in cahoots. Both parties are expanding government."
