Description | Would-be challengers in next year's Democratic primary for Rep. David Wu's seat reacted swiftly Sunday to Wu's announcement he would not resign but also would not run for an eighth term in Congress.
"David Wu's reported plan to remain in office but not seek re-election puts David Wu first and his constituents last," Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian said in a prepared statement sent to reporters. "David Wu should do the right thing and step aside now."
Another candidate who would have challenged Wu in the primary, state Rep. Brad Witt, D-Clatskanie, said Wu's announcement prompts new concerns about Wu's remaining months in office. "Will he be at all effective?" Witt asked. "That's very much in question."
