Duluth City Council member Jeff Anderson to run for Congress

| Description | Jeff Anderson, a member of the Duluth City Council since 2007, will seek the DFL nomination for the U.S. House from the northern Minnesota 8th District in 2012. That means he will be running for the nomination against former state Sen. Tarryl Clark and seeking to challenge the sitting congressman, Chip Cravaack.
Well, it sort of means that, although nothing is certain until the new congressional map, which will cover the 2012 House races, is completed. As of now, Cravaack's district includes Duluth. Clark, who has been living in St. Cloud and was the DFL nominee against Michele Bachmann in 2008, has acquired a Duluth condo as a step toward running in the eighth.
MinnPost Joe Kimball previously reported that Anderson and Clark had been to Washington for candidate training. And it is likely other DFLers will seek the nomination.
Anderson hails from Ely, came to Duluth to go to college and stayed, and had a career in radio news before running for the council.
In his announcement press release, Anderson accused Cravaack of harboring "extreme Tea Party views" that are hindering the prosperity that Anderson sees ahead for northern Minnesota. |
