DescriptionWith only a week left before voting ends, 80 percent of Colorado Springs voters still haven’t returned their ballots.

As of yesterday, only 29,250 ballots had been returned, according to the City Clerk’s Office.

That’s about 20 percent of the estimated 151,000 ballots that were mailed out.

“It seems like it’s a low voter turnout at this point,” mayoral candidate Richard Skorman said.

“I think it means that people just aren’t clear yet,” he said. “They’re not decided. Or maybe they don’t have a stake in this election. Maybe it’s not as important to them as we think it is.”

Voters in City Council District 1, the northwest quadrant of the city, have turned in more ballots than in any other council district.

That’s noteworthy because there are council races in District 2 and District 3 but not in District 1.
