DescriptionEmbattled B.C. NDP Leader Carole James will not be resigning despite an open revolt in her caucus, according to party sources.

“She plans to fight back,” said one person with knowledge of the situation.

Ms. James is set to hold a news conference on Thursday afternoon to announce she will not submit to their demands. Instead she’ll call a meeting of the party’s top officials and MLAs to bring the conflict to a head after weeks of unrest.

Ms. James’s decision to stay on would seem to clear the way for a showdown with at least 13 MLAs in her caucus who believe she should resign to allow someone else lead the party into the next election. At the meeting that is now being organized, those critics may be faced with a choice of dropping their opposition, or being expelled from the caucus and the party.
