Description | Jorge Luis Garcia, the state Senate minority leader, is being remembered as a leader and committed servant to Arizona and his constituents.
Garcia, a Democrat who had served in District 27 in Tucson since 2003, died Friday of heart failure, his family said. He was 57.
House Democratic Leader David Lujan said the state has lost a great public servant. "He stood up for what he believed in and was always there for the most vulnerable," Lujan said.
Assistant House Democratic Leader Kyrsten Sinema said Garcia was "a true believer in helping others."
Garcia, who also had represented Tucson as a member of the state House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997, was making a run for the Arizona Corporation Commission. "The family wanted everyone to know he had been 'campaigning until the end,' " said Tony Bracamonte, his campaign chairman. |
