Jean Chrétien in good spirits after brain surgery, aide says

| Description | Former prime minister Jean Chrétien was up and walking on Sunday two days after undergoing surgery in a Montreal hospital to remove a pool of blood that was putting pressure on his brain.
The 76-year-old suffered a subdural hematoma – a potentially life-threatening collection of blood over the surface of his brain – that required emergency surgery on Friday. He was making a speedy recovery, but remained in the intensive-care unit in the company of his wife, Aline; his brother, Michel, and his daughter, France.
“He was up walking all around the ICU. He is in very good spirits,” long-time aide Bruce Hartley said Sunday.
Doctors at Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital are uncertain what caused the broken blood vessel that led to the hematoma. But the former prime minister bumped his head a month ago and it can take that long for the condition to show any symptoms. |
