Tancredo says he wants Arizona law in Colorado

| Description | DENVER — Third-party gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo said Thursday he expects immigration legislation similar to the controversial measure passed in Arizona to be introduced in the next legislative session in Colorado, and he encouraged it.
“I like it,” Tancredo said of the Arizona measure that calls for state and local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws. “I think it’s a good law.”
During his official announcement as a candidate for governor with the American Constitution Party, Tancredo said he and like-minded hardliners on the issue of illegal immigration aren’t deterred by a federal court ruling Wednesday that struck down portions of the controversial Arizona law.
“That does not mean for one moment, in my point of view, that Colorado will back up,” Tancredo said.
The Arizona law — except for the sections scuttled by the federal court — took effect Thursday. |
