Description | MONTREAL–As Quebecers try to determine who is telling the truth in one of the biggest scandals to hit the province in decades, Premier Jean Charest's political fortunes are quickly evaporating.
According to an Angus Reid/La Presse poll released Thursday, the premier's approval rating has fallen to 16 per cent from 22 per cent in February. His disapproval rating has climbed to 70 per cent from 53 per cent in the same period.
More worrisome for Charest, though, is that a majority of Quebecers believe former justice minister Marc Bellemare, who has levelled serious allegations of corruption in the financing of the Quebec Liberal Party.
When asked who is more credible, Bellemare or the Charest government, 58 per cent said Bellemare, the poll found. Just 11 per cent said the government. The rest believe neither side is credible or are uncertain. |
