| Description | Former Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano and independent lawmaker Takeo Hiranuma have agreed to launch a new party as early as Thursday, sources said Saturday.
The new party is expected to field candidates for the upcoming Upper House election, and former Kochi Gov. Daijiro Hashimoto is among the possible candidates that the party may field, according to the sources.
The DPJ, headed by Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, holds an outright majority in the more powerful House of Representatives, but needs to cooperate with two minor parties in the Upper House to ensure smooth passage of legislation. |
