Description | About $83 million of stimulus funding awarded by the U.S. Department of Education yesterday promises to transform the island's classrooms -- inside and out.
This money is the largest share of President Obama's stimulus package headed to Guam. Delegate Madeleine Bordallo called the funding provided a rare opportunity to modernize and improve the island's learning institutions.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan called the funding "a historic investment."
"The $83 million Guam will receive today is part of the single largest boost in education funding in recent history," Duncan said in a press release. "Guam can now utilize these funds to save jobs and lay the groundwork for a generation of education reform."
For the leaders of the Guam Department of Education, the University of Guam and Guam Community College, this money means that projects that were once out of reach will now be put out for bids. |
