Description | Former internal affairs minister Kunio Hatoyama, whose older brother, Yukio, is the prime minister, said Sunday he is ready to defect from the Liberal Democratic Party and form a new force.
"I have made up my mind completely," Hatoyama said on a Fuji Television Network Inc. program, expressing hope that other LDP colleagues, including former Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano and ex-health minister Yoichi Masuzoe, join him.
To launch and register a political party, a group must have either five Diet members or must have won 2 percent or more effective votes cast by constituencies or in the proportional representation portion of a previous national election. |
